How to target Facebook users in your area or other countries such as Taiwan, Hong Kong, or China

Reach users in your neighborhood or all over the world using Facebook. With 800 million users worldwide, Facebook could be a great testing ground for your product offerings or messages. Whether you are a marketing executive wanting to expand your business to other countries or a martial arts school owner seeking a low-cost way to reach parents or students, you can use Facebook to reach potential customers directly.

Give the following a try, even if you are just curious about the demographics of Facebook users.

To target a specific group of users:

Log in to your Facebook account.

Go to Click on the “Create an Ad” button

Our focus is on targeting, so let’s scroll down to “2. Targeting”.


Example 1: We chose “By Zip Code” and entered “93711.” It shows, on the right, that 4,360 people live in the zip code. You can further refine your target by age, sex, interests, relationship status (interested in men or women, single, in a relationship, engaged, or married), language, education, or work.


Example 2: We set the country to Taiwan. There are 9.6 million Facebook users in Taiwan as of Nov. 1, 2011.


Example 3: Hong Kong. 3.3 million users.
