China Renames California Almonds: Ba Dan Mu

In advance of Chinese New Year, packages of California Almonds began appearing in wholesale and retail markets across China with labels bearing a new name: Ba Dan Mu. Almond Board of California (ABC) has been working with the Chinese food industry and government to transition the Mandarin name for California Almonds from the traditional term to the new name, which was announced by China’s Standardization Administration at the end of 2012.

New name: Ba Dan Mu (巴旦木):

Traditional term: Měiguó Dà Xìngrén (美國大杏仁):
