七 (qī) Seven
Seven is a lucky number in the West, but it not so in China. Traditionally 七月 (Qī yuè), the seventh month of the lunar calendar, is considered 鬼月 (Guǐ yuè), the ghost month!
Maybe it is because 淒 (Qī), another character that sounds identical to 七 (Qī), means sad. This character is a combination of water (水, Shuǐ) and wife (妻, Qī). I guess it is sad if the wife is crying!
The following are some combinations of words we can use with 七 (Qī):
七匹 (Qī pī) Seven [horses or clothes].
七刀 (Qī dāo) Seven knives.
七三 (Qī sān) 73
七水 (Qī shuǐ) Seven waters. This could be a name for a city or town.
七心 (Qī xīn) Seven hearts.
七冊 (Qī cè) Seven books or seven volumes.
七口 (Qī kǒu) Seven mouths, meaning seven people [in a household].
七戶 (Qī hù) Seven households.
七尺 (Qī chǐ) Seven and ruler means seven feet.
七人 (Qī rén) Seven people.
七山 (Qī shān) Seven mountains or hills.
